Helen PinskyHelen Pinsky, LL.B.

Professional Experience
I have been engaged in the practice of alternative dispute resolution in the public sector since 1988. My main area of focus is to assist people, wherever possible, to resolution through neutral guidance. As an arbitrator, I was appointed to conduct arbitrations under the Residential Tenancy Act under several consecutive appointments, and I have extensive experience in the field of arbitration.

Prior to entering the adjudicative field, I was a practicing lawyer in a Vancouver law firm for several years. My law practice focussed on family law, with emphasis on mediation and negotiation to settlement; and a general practice including real estate and conveyances, wills and estates, and small business law. As managing partner of the firm, I managed a staff of up to fifteen lawyers and assistants.

Education / Professional Membership
I obtained a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and am currently enrolled at the University of British Columbia in graduate studies in Library and Information Sciences. I am a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and the British Columbia Arbitration and Mediation Institute.

Community Involvement
I am a lecturer and seminar leader on various legal topics, Long Range Planning workshops, and retreats. I have had extensive experience in chairing business and organizational meetings, and use Roberts Rules of Order.

Volunteer involvement in my community has always been a priority for me. I have been a volunteer throughout my professional career. I served as president of the Vancouver YWCA and as a representative on the provincial and national bodies of the YWCA. I served for a term on the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Public Library, and was Vice Chairman and chair of the Finance Committee. I was also a member and Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Riley Park Community Association. I have served as a member of the Board of Directors and as President of the Board of the Vancouver Talmud Torah School (an independent elementary school operating under the BC Ministry of Education and managed by its own Board of Directors.) I have also served in many capacities for other charitable organizations.

In addition, I spent numerous volunteer hours in youth sports activities such as hockey manager, baseball ump co-ordinator, etc. My interests include walking, fitness, reading, and travel.
