Professional Experience
Ms. Roberts has been involved in alternative dispute resolution in the public and private sector
since 1992. She has acted as a decision maker in the areas of residential tenancies, employment,
sports, human rights, property assessment and forestry. She also conducts private arbitrations
and harassment investigations, and provides advice on conflict of interest and ethical issues.
She is currently an adjudicator with the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat,
the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada, and is on the AMEX dispute resolution roster.
Prior to entering the adjudicative field, Ms. Roberts was Constitutional Counsel for the
Government of the Northwest Territories, and in private practise in Yellowknife, Northwest
Territories.
Education
Ms. Roberts has a Bachelor of Arts (political science major) and an LL.B. from the University of
Calgary, a Certificate from the International Institute of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France,
a diploma in International Economic Law from the University of Helsinki, and has taken courses
at Cornell University's Summer Institute of International & Comparative Law in Paris.
Professional Organizations
Ms. Roberts is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, the
British Columbia Arbitration and Mediation Institute, and the ADR Institute of Canada.
Ms. Roberts has been on the executive of a variety of Canadian Bar Association subsections,
including administrative and aboriginal law, since 1987. Ms. Roberts has also been a member of
the Northwest Territories Law Reform Committee, and the executive of the National Association of
Women and the Law.
Community Involvement
Ms. Roberts has served on the Board of Directors of the Yellowknife Y.W.C.A. and the Belfry
Theatre in Victoria, and was an honorary member of the Tree of Peace Friendship Centre Board in
Yellowknife.
Ms. Roberts is a national figure skating judge, and is an avid runner, Nordic skier and kayaker.
